Nice information, but a few corrections and an addition or two are in order.

The initial name of Virginia Tech was abbreviated "VAMC," not "VAM." The school didn't change its name to Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute--the General Assembly changed it. Tech gained a third official name from the General Assembly--Virginia Polytechnic Institute--in 1944, and the current name change came in 1970.

HokieBird (one word with a capital "B") evolved from a gobbler mascot. The first permanent gobbler mascot made its debut in 1962 (a live turkey paraded the football field sidelines from the 1910's through the 1950's). The current HokieBird made its debut in 1981.

"VT" is the university's athletic logo, not the university's logo, which incorporates the War Memorial Pylons within a shield along with the words "Virginia Tech" and the university's tagline "Invent the Future." Virginia Tech is the university's official nickname.

When the football games against VMI became so popular, Virginia Tech was known as VPI.
